Strange Arduino pins in the visually-guided toy robot tutorial

Not sure if this comment should come here...

I am trying to build the visually-guided robot according to the tutorial

http://jevois.org/tutorials/UserRobotCar.html

I noticed that the tutorial uses Arduino pins 20 and 21 to connect to IN1/IN2 of right and left motors on the motor driver.

However pins 20 and 21 are the TX and RX pins on the pro micro arduino board used.

As the TX/RX pins are of course used to receive serial information from the jevois camera, they cannot be used to drive the motors.

I guess that any digital pins can be used instead, but this should preferably be modified in the tutorial.

Getting DemoDMP working under Jevois Inventor

I have an AR0135 camera installed on Jevois, and everything works well in a linux virtualbox (Windows 7 running jevois-1.14.0-ubuntu1804.vdi)

I've created my own python examples, and the demos work well, but 'd like to play a bit with DemoDMP featured here: http://jevois.org/moddoc/DemoDMP/modinfo.html

How can I enable this module under jevois inventor?

Many thanks,

Any plans for beefing up the GPU in the future?

Are there any plans for releasing a jevois version in the future that has a better GPU? I really like the form factor of the jevois but I feel that it lacks some punch when compared to say a jetson nano. The problem with the jetson nano is that it is unnecessarily big. I'm using jevois in my project here: https://github.com/naughtyStark/Self-driving-car-STM-32 and as you can see there is no space for a jetson nano to fit in there (I would want to avoid putting the nano on top as it would raise the CG, which is important for racing! The jevois, on the other hand, poses no such issues since it only weighs 34 gms!). I feel like this is a niche that jevois could fill; compact, lightweight and minimalistic camera+computer.

Not sure how to use hardware serial for binary transmission.

I have read some answers that have asked about mavlink integration into jevois. I am trying to make something similar to mavlink and have followed the same steps as prescribed for mavlink. The code compiles without a problem. Using the module would require setting

serialdev =

in the params.cfg (jevois's params.cfg).

However, whenever I do this and power up the jevois, all I see is

Green light, orange light flash, constant green light with no orange light.

This occurs regardless of whether I write setmapping "mapping number" in initscript or not, where mapping number corresponds to the module that uses the serial.

What it is certainly not:

A power issue or a broken orange LED (because it operates just fine until I make that change in params.cfg)

Anybody got a reply from jevoisinc?

Hi, I've tried to contact Jevois a couple of weeks ago about questings regarding the capapabilities of their lenses (mail to jevoisinc@gmail.com), but never got an answer. After purchasing some items from their shop I had a complaint about the 2MP sensor and addressed this to jevoissales@gmail.com last week, but also didn't get any reply yet.

Seems quite strange to me, so I'm not sure if my mails ever reached Jevois. Anyone else got a reply from them during the last weeks?

Runing a new added module only works the first time

I recently bougth a Jevois Camera

Everything its ok if i only use the modules that come with the camera the problem is decribed next:

I add a new module, write some code for aruco markers detection, while i am working with this new module everything is working fine but only if i do not close Inventor. When i close and reopen inventor i can run any of the default modules but if select the new added module the inventor freeze on the last module opened and the camera view going to black. Then i close inventor from task manager and when i reopen it the camera its not detected. The only way to make the camera work again is taking off the SD and with a SD adapter access the jevois partition from windows and delete the folder for the new module and start again from the beginning creating the new module again and writing or copying the code again, but this only work while i dont close inventor o disconect the camera.

Jevois colors just aren't right.

I'm trying to use the Jevois camera. There are things I love about it, and it could be quite useful, but it just isn't working for me due to poor color reproduction. I can't seem to find settings that generate proper colors. I'm using Jevois inventor, and it always seems to start out horribly dark. Anything not in bright light can't be seen. If I increase the gain or fiddle with the white balance, I can see a bit more of the picture, but the colors get washed out.

If I manage to find some adequate settings in Jevois Inventor, I go over to use Grip (a great program that was developed primarily for use in FIRST Robotics) and the colors are completely different, but still not accurate, when I stream the data in Grip.

In particular, I'm trying to see yellow things and select them, but in the images, they always seemnearly black or white, depending on the gain, so I can't pick the right settings for an HSV filter.

I don't have this problem on any other USB camera. Yellow looks yellow on all the other cameras. The pictures look like pictures, not too dark and not too light. I'm kind of stuck here. I really would like to use this camera, but I'm on a First Robotics team, and the build season is slipping away.

(Can I upload example photos? I don't see a way to do that. The image tag seems to demand a link, as opposed to an uploaded file.)

inventor crashes on mac when camera detected

Hi,

I have just started to use my je vois camera after finally getting a decent power lead.

I have just installed the latest image and down loaded je vois inventor to my MAC.

I start inventor and then plug the camera in, it is detected but inventor crashes, every time I try and reopen inventor it crashes.

Currently running Movaje 10.14 on the mac.

The camera appears to be ok in photobooth, i.e. the demo loads and runs.

Has anyone else had this problem,

thanks
By the way the master documentation search function doesn't seem to work very well. Is there any page for more detailed documentation on the various command line commands?

counting objects with Jevois

I have a Jevois connected to an Arduino Uno. I can connect just fine but i am trying to teach the camera to detect a small thin object, count them and sort by color. i am able to see the target area and adjust it to the aspect ratio i nedd but when i send the teach command, it says it was saved but I am not seeing the green box nor do i see the object being tracked in the Amcap. I am looking at colored disks from the side. the disks are about 1.25 inches tall and about a quarter inch thick. i have them stacked and i am attempting to use the camera to track how many of each color are in the stack. i have mytarget set for about 10 percent to 35-40 percent for the target box. I changed the vision sensor to a JeVois 1.3MP Sensor with 90deg no-distortion Lens. I am looking at the stack from about 2 inches away. could any of these factors be giving me an issue? Thanks

Low frame rate at high resolution

Hello, I'd like to ask a very simple question. I was curious as to why the JeVois Smart Camera runs at a slow frame rate at a high resolution. Is this due to the software or hardware's capability (hardware overheating, nonoptimal algorithm, etc.)? Also, are there any ways to speed up or exceed the maximum fps ratings? I am planning to connect my camera to an arduino board.

Raspberry Pi Jam Demonstration

Hi Everyone,

We will be holding a Raspberry Pi Jam - really sort of a Makers demonstration - for kids in the surrounding area. I don't have anything really to show off since I have been help setting this up. I have a JeVois set up to a raspberry pi that I have been playing around with. Does anyone have any suggestion on a good way to demonstrate all the uses for the JeVois?

Possible having multiple monitors with interactive cameras that the kids could walk by and play with? This event usually receives over 500 people throughout the day so it would get a lot of enjoyment. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Works on linux, not on Windows 10

I've been using the A33 on a Linux system with AMCap and VCP with no issues. When I tried to use it on a Windows 10 system, with AMCap, some error 87. The USB VCP to A33 will not connect on Windows 10. The A33 shows in Device Manager both as Camera and COM with no apparent driver issues. Anyone run into this and solve connecting on Windows 10?
Flashing after updating code

I modified the Eyetracker Code and the DemoEyeTracker Code to output some data through the serial port. I have compiled my code on Ubuntu 16.04 (I use Parallels virtual machine). I flash the microSD card as explained here. The name of my device is sdb, and the partitions for BOOT and JEVOIS are correctly done.

But I don't have the LINUX partitions and so I can not test my code. Here is the message displayed after the flashing command :

python version of Je Vois ?

Hello,

I have played with python version of Open CV; from my point of view it is as fast and easier to work with than with C. Do you forecast a python version of Je Vois in the future ?

How to run another bundled module by default?

Sorry, I'm a bit new to C and Linux, and am patiently reading the documentation to get up to speed. In the mean time, I have a simple question: how can I switch to running the bundled/demo ArUco module by default instead of what currently runs (looks like it's "Saliency Demo").

I saw that switching the asterisk in the videomappings.cfg file doesn't do the trick on Linux. Is there a file I can edit to tell it which module to load, or do I have to recompile something?

Mint 18.1 - can't get it to work with the camera

So the Jevois-Daemon finds my built in webcam and runs off of it. I've run through the various listmappings and they all seem to work fine, with my webcam... But i want the jevois camera to do the work...

So I've disabled the built in webcam that kept coming up by default (/dev/video0) by unbinding.
Plugged in the Jevois cam with a USB3 and USB2 port on the laptop.
ls command showed it the system recogized it as the new /dev/video0 and the the uvcvideo module was in use.

run the jevois-daemon and get this output...

ERR Log::warnAndIgnoreException: Ignoring std::exception [FTL VideoBuffers::dqbuf: VIDIOC_DQBUF failed [19](No such device)]
FTL VideoBuffers::dqbuf: VIDIOC_DQBUF failed [19](No such device)

Downloading the latest ubuntu for the laptop to give it a try in that environment...

For what it is worth I've tried all of the power scenarios I can think of but I still get something I haven't seen here yet. With and without usb2. 3. and external 2amp power supply. all results are the same.
after each one of the different scenarios the usb ports won't recognize the mouse until after a restart.

Initial power on - all green.
few seconds - green with an orange flash
few seconds later - solid green and solid orange simultaneous - and that is it.
Full fan power from start every time.

I've tried different SD cards too. same results.

I'm stuck and putting a ubuntu partition onto the laptop is my last resort.

Camera operation defaults after plugging into usb adapter?

Since JeVois has all these options, do I need to turn on Motion sensing first before connecting to my USB adapter. After JeVois is connected to the USB adapter, to record motion, how does it know it is in record mode and to record only when motion is detected. I am not finding those details in the documentation. Please help.

Disable built in webcam in favor of Jevois cam

I can't figure out how to disable my built in webcam or tell the daemon to use the jevois cam.

The jevois-daemon is working very well. I even went through some of the different listmappings, but it is using my built in webcam instead of the Jevois cam.

I used lsusb -t to get the devices connected and figured out that the JeVois cam is showing up as "EEM Gadget," but I'm not sure which one my webcam is...

Is there a way to tell the jevois-daemon explicitly to use the JeVois cam?

Hi all. On http://www.jevois.org/ it mentions that

Manufacturing Progress

All 1776 kickstarter rewards have been manufactured and are being shipped to backers now.

I'm a turnkey backer in Spain who replied 'ship now' to an email received on March 11th, 2017. I am in no hurry to receive the cameras necessarily, but was wondering if I should have received a tracking number if indeed the cameras are being shipped to backers.

Thanks!

Not booting? (Possible SD size issue)

I followed the Quick Start guide and used my Mac's command line to copy (using `dd`) jevois-image-1.0-8G.img onto my SD but having tried 2 different SD cards and two JeVois', it's not working - while I get a solid (bright!) green light on the device, it will not boot - it never turns orange at all.

I suspect the problem is I only have 16GB cards. I had hoped writing it to the large card would not be a problem. I also tried Etcher (much faster than dd BTW) with the same result. I can see all three partitions. I can see and navigate both the BOOT and JEVOIS partitions.

How do you seperate case halves?

I'm checking the unit out and even judging from the fanless stl files it sort of looks like it's a press fit, but could be glued. So is it possible to take the case apart without damaging the case? I don't have a 3d printer so I don't want to break one.

Flashing to an SD Card

Thank you for the updated Easy Install script! It worked well once downloaded without errors. Better yet jevois-daemon worked great.

Now I would like to flash an SD card to try with a raspberry pi until my Kickstarter reward arrives, but I am not certain where to begin. I found the hbuild and pbuild directories so I assume that the libraries and base apps have been compiled. I tentatively tried beginning the process at the section "flashing it all to microSD", but the rebuild-platform.sh quickly errored out. Since I am still unclear on all the processes involved, asking the question, "How do I proceed?", seems a better alternative to destroying a perfectly fine install.

Thank you
