About: The heavy influence of the El NiƱo-Southern Oscillation contributes to the canyon's fickle climate. The Chaco Laundry streamed across the upper strata of what is currently the 400-foot (120-meter) Chacra Mesa, reducing into it and gouging out a broad canyon over the course of countless years. The mesa makes up sandstone and shale developments dating from the Late Cretaceous, which are of the Mesa Verde formation.
